From humble beginnings in the Northland kauri gum fields early last century, Babich Wines have become one of New Zealands most respected wineries. Our reputation for making excellent wine extends beyond New Zealands shores. Today Babich is one of New Zealands largest family-owned wine companies, and a new generation is continuing what Josip began. In 2001 Peters second son, David Babich, became the first member of the third generation to join the business when he was appointed to the role of Assistant General Manager. He is now the General Manager. Our Winemaking Philosophy: Babich Wines, strongly-held winemaking philosophy lies at the heart of our approach to producing interesting wines. In essence, our vision of being New Zealands finest wine company means that our winemaking style reflects our commitment to maintaining consistency and product integrity.
From grapes on the vine, to the finished product, Babichs winemaking team pays close attention to detail. The end results include premium wines such as those in the Irongate and The Patriarch ranges. These are produced in a labour-intensive manner that results in wines with a high degree of complexity and character.
Considerable care and attention to detail are also taken with varietal wines in the Babich range, which results in a contemporary range of wines that are suitable for all occasions.
